Celine Jules (Star Ocean 2)

creation: April 2001
worn at: Akon 12, Anime Expo 2001, Katsucon 2003

why celine?: As you may (or may not) have noticed, depending on how much of my silly site you've looked at, I really like Star Ocean. I am now over my obsession with this idiotic game, but it still remains my favorite PSX game. Yes, it's even better than DDR. Celine is an amazing character. I absolutely love her (as my younger sister correctly predicted before I really played the game). She's a powerful fire mage, and an absolute diva. She calls everyone "darling" and has an amazing Love Potion No. 9 moment which causes a sticky situation between herself and another female character. This chick kicks ass. She likes men, jewelry, being beautiful, and her favorite food involves cute furry bunnies. Eccentric and egotistical, she's definitely a character for me.

con notes: This costume does have its bad points- it takes me nearly an hour to put the entire thing on. Not to mention, everyone wanted a picture so I could never stand/sit in a set place for very long... I don't have any of my own pictures of this costume! I am sad about that... :(

construction: I looooove this costume. I found this nifty piece of purple velveteen in my mom's closet and decided that it would be perfect for Celine's dress. It was a very small piece of fabric... The fuzz trim was an idea I took from a Japanese site devoted to Star Ocean cosplay. The belt is sewn on to the dress directly. I added lace to a pair of plain opera-length satin evening gloves and put some white stockings with lace at the top on. Those amazing thigh-high white gogo boots were purchased for this costume, but I was able to integrate them successfully into my regular wardrobe of interesting clothing. The hat is pinned onto the wig, with lots of invisible thread attaching the ring around the hat. I never put the little baubles on the ends of the ring, but oh well. ^^; The design on her forehead was made of stick-on body gems. The infamous tattoos were face paint, although I wanted to try henna. Of course, the niftiest part was the cape. The base was made from a super lightweight aluminum material which is also very flexible. I suspended it by running invisible thread from the necklace to the cape on all sides. It turned out great! I wasn't being choked and the cape even bobbled around while I walked. I added my all-purpose Viki staff while I was at Akon to complete the outfit.
