Connell (Suikoden 2)

why connell?: Don't recognize this character? Don't worry! Not only is Suikoden an obscure PS1 RPG, Connell is an optional character from a cast of over 100 characters. He's not even playable. In fact, his only function is to change the sound effects (with the help of some strange beeping elves). In addition to being ridiculously cute, he is studying to be a phonologist. What?! You don't know what that is?? It's someone who studies sound, amazingly enough. While he's not my favorite, I chose him since he is really adorable and I wanted to make that hat. I don't have much in common with the character since I'm not 12 or even male. However, I am a student of linguistics. And a few people who've known me for years are aware of the long history this character shares with me... ^_^
con notes: I wore this at AWA with Matt, who brought his McDohl costume along. Of course, nobody knew who I was. Erin, who was Vincent at Akon, wanted another Suikoden character to accompany her, so I wore this then, as well. Still, practically nobody knew who I was!!! ^_^
construction: The construction of this was relatively simple. The treble clefs are made out of super bendable lightweight aluminum. I used a scrap of old black fabric and turned it into a nightcap, onto which I attached some white string. That necklace is actually stretchy metallic silver cord. The shirt was made from a scrap of thick white fabric. I painted the stripes on the shirt with mixtures of black & white acrylics and used shiny black fabric paint to outline them for definition. I wore this with plain black dress pants and dark brown dress shoes.
