Mia Ausa (Lunar: The Silver Star)

creation: June 2001
worn at: AX 2001, Otakon 2001

why mia?: I bought a Sega CD back in 1995. I still have that Sega CD. And I own a single game for it- Lunar: The Silver Star. It is one of my favorite games. Back in the day, it was revolutionary. So they re-released it on the PSX, but that version was inferior to the original. Working Designs is #1! Eat that, Squaresoft! My favorite character from the game is easily Nash, the arrogant and obnoxious mage. However, my Lunar costuming idea came from the fact that my sister and I are remarkably similar looking. Therefore, we were going to do Mia and Lemina. Mia was a better match for my sister since I couldn't stand how dopey Mia was.

con notes: Somehow, due to my lack of foresight, I didn't finish Mia or Lemina in time for Akon. I did finish the Mia one in time for AX and I figured it could be fun to support Lunar, regardless of my dislike for the character. That turned out to be an okay idea since I met up with Alex, Luna(s), Jessica, and NASH(!!!), but it also destroyed my dreams of a Mia & Lemina duo. The bright side of it is that Mia is the object of Nash's affection. ^_^

construction:I did a terrible job on this construction. I know I got many compliments (^^;) but I felt bad about how lackadaisical I had been. The purple design on the dress isn't even edged to eliminate fraying. The stripes on the bottom and on the sleeves don't quite line up. The dress itself isn't that shoddy, but I did a messy job trying to add some interfacing after I realized how thin the material was. The sock cuffs and collar are detachable, which is convenient. I think the best part was the wig. At least I managed to get the yellow ribbon on there properly. Hardly my best work.
