Rena Lanford (Star Ocean 2)

creation: December 2000
worn at: Anime North 2001, Akon 12

why rena?: Star Ocean is great. If you have not figured out by now that I love it, then you should look at a few of my other cosplay pages. Best Playstation RPG! Yeah! Well, my sister likes Star Ocean as well, so she needed to be in on the costuming affair. Since we needed a Rena, and she didn't mind Rena, she got to be Rena. I don't like Rena because she is annoying and irritating and a sad excuse for a main character. Play Claude's scenario because it is so much better. For example, at the beginning of Claude's scenario, you are on board a spaceship and you go explore some ancient ruins (a la Star Trek) where you encounter some mysterious techonology that acts as a type of teleporter. In Rena's scenario, you get to play in a forest and talk to your mother. I further dislike Rena because she is seven hundred million years old. However, she is cute.

con notes: I stole this and wore it Friday evening at Anime North because I'm EVIL! hahaha. We had a cute group of Star Ocean Saturday at Akon. It was fun! Fairy heal! My sister and I are the most freakishly similar-looking Claude & Rena ever!!!

construction: This costume had too many pieces. The shirt was the easiest part to make- it is a modified turtleneck with slim red ribbon attached. The overall top is cheap royal blue cotton with gold buttons sewn on. The skirt was supposed to be pleated but turned out very strangely. The socks are a striped cotton with the navy ribbons sewn on. The same ribbons are tied around the arms. The cape has a brown felt base, and red sash material edged in gold, and attaches to the buttons on the overall top. The red sash is made out of matching material. The wig is a cheap purchase from Party City, and is closer in color to Rena's sprite than her official character design. We used glue to make the bang stick up. Yellow foam was taped to a barette to form the moon. The ears were made of paper (^^;;) and did not last very long. At Akon, my sister also wore a pendant.
