Sabrina (Pokemon)

why sabrina?: You can never have enough Pokemon! So, Sabrina was my second character from the show. It was a very last minute decision. I was on my way downtown to find stuff to work on my Nei costume and I decided that Sabrina would be an excellent choice. Thus, Sabrina happened. I love her since she's so evil and scary, turns people (including her dear old mom) into dolls, defeats Pikachu, and refuses to laugh (or even smile) until someone blows a bomb up in her face. She also floats around creepily and communicates telepathically since she's psychic.

construction: I found a pattern for that dress with all the right panels. Simple. Of course I'm an idiot so I made it out of lining, but did I ever mention I was cheap?? Plus, it's shiny so it's cool. The wig failed, repeatedly, much to my dismay. I want to share that the dress is accurate, unlike most other Sabrina cosplay I've seen. It's short enough (hell yeah it's short enough), it has *black* side panels, it has the black cuffs, and it has the right number of buttons in the right places. Ha ha ha! Now, I didn't have the thigh high boots at Expo, so I made little covers which turned out okay, but by Otakon, I had the real thing. Somehow I always look like a depressed doof in the pictures.
The crowning achievement of this costume was the doll. Sabrina carries the doll everywhere, and through some bizarre ventriloquism, she essentially speaks through it. I confess I actually bought a doll dress pattern in order to get the dress right. I was quite happy with the dress, but the problem arose in that the cheap doll I had did not have the right hair. So I used the bits I cut off from the wig and affixed them to the doll's hat. People liked the doll at Expo, but I added little red LEDs (glowing thingies) to the doll's eyes at Otakon, and that drove people wild. By flipping a switch, I could make the eyes glow. I remember being both flattered and offended by one individual who wanted a picture of the doll since it was so cool, but without me. I dunno- I like the doll. ^_^ It's creepy.
